Chapter 8-Digital Blog Post #F

Teachers have to face an array of new choices about how to integrate communication technologies into their personal practices and related outside the classroom professional responsibilities (Maloy, pg 208). If it wasn't for this class (EME 2040) I wouldn't never knew how to create a blog. This is my first blog and I am really enjoying it. At first, I didn't like the idea of creating this blog, but now this blog is becoming part of my life. Thanks to this class (EME 2040) I am learning that there are many multiple communications technologies that I could use in the future as a teacher. For example,

  • Email or instant messaging
  • Teacher or classroom websites
  • Blogs
  • Online discussions
  • Wikis
However, social networking like Facebook, Myspace, Webkniz, etc are part of our daily life. So, why not to make these social networking websites into educational networking? It could be awesome to get an email, online discussion or homework via Facebook. Social networking websites could be a faster way to communicate with students or teachers, also it could be an incredible learning tool! On this article, 100 Ways You Should Be Using Facebook in Your Classroom explains why facebook should be an educational networking. Instead uploading unuseful information on these wonderful websites, we should take advantage of them.

Blogs are a form of engaging students to become part of the educational process via online. Every english educator should implement this new way of learning as part of their assignments. I think this tool is way more fun than just writing a journal on a simple notebook. Also, students can comment on someone else's blog and develop more creativity.

  1. I'm glad to hear you are 'coming around' to the blogging. It is definitely a new tool for most people and leaving one's comfort zone can be, well, uncomfortable! But we need to do it often and with confidence as teachers. Our learning activities and plans can no longer address the needs of our students if we stay the same in traditional format, so if nothing else, these blog assignments let you learn a bit about how to explore in a 'safe' zone. :)

Speaking of exploring - your title PowToon is great! Imagine when students have a chance to create with such animations. They love it and the value in learning is translated from their engagement to their manipulation of the content! :)
